Salt and Pepper

 

In this demonstration, the students show that the magic of science can be used to separate a mixture of salt and pepper.

The project above is a DEMONSTRATION. To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:

  1. How close does the balloon need to be to pick up the pepper?
  2. Does the number of times you rub the balloon on your hair affect the distance?
  3. Does the shape of the balloon affect the result?

"The Magic of Science" Grant

In November 2008, Mrs. Russ received a $1000 grant from The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). NDIA Gulf Coast Chapter awarded grants to Okaloosa County School District teachers through their ACCEL Grants program. The grants are intended to support innovative classroom projects that foster enthusiasm for math and science. Mrs. Russ' project, "The Magic of Science," enabled her students to research, write, and produce a series of science podcasts that demonstrate concepts taught in the third grade science curriculum.
