Runaway Pepper

 

In this demonstration, the students show how soap affects the surface tension of water.

The project above is a DEMONSTRATION. To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:

  1. Does the same effect happen with other substances that float on water?
  2. Does the amount of soap change the distance the pepper moves?
  3. Does the temperature of the water change the reaction?

"The Magic of Science" Grant

In November 2008, Mrs. Russ received a $1000 grant from The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). NDIA Gulf Coast Chapter awarded grants to Okaloosa County School District teachers through their ACCEL Grants program. The grants are intended to support innovative classroom projects that foster enthusiasm for math and science. Mrs. Russ' project, "The Magic of Science," enabled her students to research, write, and produce a series of science podcasts that demonstrate concepts taught in the third grade science curriculum.
