Balloon blow up

In this demonstration, the students use the reaction between baking soda and vinegar to inflate a balloon.

The project above is a DEMONSTRATION. To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:

  1. Does the amount of baking soda change the size of the balloon?
  2. Do other liquids work instead of vinegar?
  3. Does the amount of liquid change the speed of the reaction?

or think up your own question to answer!

"The Magic of Science" Grant

In November 2008, Mrs. Russ received a $1000 grant from The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). NDIA Gulf Coast Chapter awarded grants to Okaloosa County School District teachers through their ACCEL Grants program. The grants are intended to support innovative classroom projects that foster enthusiasm for math and science. Mrs. Russ' project, "The Magic of Science," enabled her students to research, write, and produce a series of science podcasts that demonstrate concepts taught in the third grade science curriculum.
