Spelling Center
At the Spelling Center, students practice their weekly spelling words. Students can work with a partner to give each other a spelling test and check it together. They can also play "Spelling Showdown", or choose a task card to:
- write the spelling words in ABC order
- write each word and then go over them three more times with different colors to make rainbow words
- write the spelling words in cursive
- write a story or a poem using the spelling words
- sort the spelling words into groups that have something in common and write the name of each group and the words in their Notebook.
Materials
- Lists of spelling words
I type each list individually in a large, clear font and in a cursive font using StartWrite Handwriting Worksheet Software 5.0 software. StartWrite works similar to your word processor software. You can use cursive or manuscript fonts, print in dotted or shaded letters, add stroke arrows, print guidelines, and add clip art images to your practice worksheets.
What I like about StartWrite is the fact that, unlike most word processor cursive fonts, StartWrite acutally changes the formation of the letters depending on what letter is before or after it. For instance, the beginning stroke of letters that come after cursive b, o, or w are changed to actually connect and look exactly like realcursive handwriting.
