At the Newspaper Center, students read from a selection of newspapers written for children. After reading the articles, they can choose to write important facts from
the article, write important words and
their definitions, reflect about the article and write a
response about what they
thought about the content, or write at least two questions and the
answers about the article in their
Notebook.
We have a class subscription to Weekly Reader, and we usually have one or two extra copies every week. I save the extra copies, and laminate them. I put last year's papers in the newspaper center. You could even ask a teacher from a lower grade or a higher grade to give you their extra copies to make this center easier or more challenging.
The MiniPages appear in our local paper every week. I save the copies and laminate them for durability.
