Black Ink
When Harry, Ron, and Hermione are given assignments by their professors, they use a quill pen with black ink on a roll of parchment. Make your own ink that turns black with age.
What you need:
- small bowl
- measuring cup
- liquid dish soap
- 10 nails or 2 pads of steel wool
- plastic food storage container
- white vinegar
- 4 tea bags (black tea)
- medium saucepan
- glass jar with lid
- white glue
- wooden spoon
What do you do?
- Pour 1/4 cup of dish soap in the bowl and add 2 cups of water. Mix well.
- Soak the nails or steel wool in the soapy water for 30 minutes.
- Place the clean nails or steel wool in a plastic food storage container and pour in enough vinegar to cover them. Soak for 48 hours.
- Pour 1 cup of water in the saucepan and add the four tea bags. Bring to a boil and let the tea boil for 10 minutes. Let the water cool.
- Pour 1/2 cup of the tea water and 1/2 cup of the nail/steel wool liquid into the glass jar. Mix in a little glue until the ink is thick enough to write with.
