Accelerated Math is a software program that provides students with extra practice and reinforcement of skills we are learning in our daily math lessons. Accelerated Math creates personalized math assignments at each students level, then scores them automatically.
Each morning, the students will have an Accelerated Math paper on their desk. This paper has 6 to 10 questions to be answered. After students complete the work on their sheet, they are responsible for transferring this information to a computer scan card. The computer scores the sheet, and identifies specific problem areas. Accelerated Math helps students practice the precise skills necessary to move ahead at their own pace.
Sometimes, students move ahead to certain skills before they are introduced in class, and may make a low score on a paper. I always try to go over the paper with each student who makes a low score, but, quite honestly, sometimes we simply run out of time. It would be very helpful if you could go over the paper with your child when they bring it home. Please do not be alarmed if they occasionally make a low score on one of these papers. Sometimes, they understand the skill, but the way the problem is presented causes them to miss it. This program is very challenging, and I do not expect perfect papers.
Expect your child to bring home an Accelerated Math paper almost every day. Celebrate their successes with them and encourage them when they make those boo-boos.
